What’s less clear is how quickly more widespread changes could come.Since 2016, 12 cities or counties in Georgia have passed local laws reducing the penalty for possession of an ounce or less of marijuana. Almost 1.2 million Georgians, about 11% of the state population, now live in a place where, in most cases, they won’t be jailed if found with less than an ounce of pot.
